VILLAGE OF TEQUESTA RECOGNIZES DOMESTIC PARTNERS Palm Beach County Human Rights Council
(Tequesta, Florida) In concluding collective bargaining with its three unions, the Village of Tequesta has expanded the definition of "immediate family" to include employees' domestic partners. The new definition is included in the contracts between the Village and the Professional Fire Fighters/Paramedics of Palm Beach County, the Communications Workers of America, and the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association. The three contracts are in effect through September 30, 2010. "Once again, the Village of Tequesta has taken steps to ensure that all Village employees are treated equally, " said Rand Hoch, President of the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council. The Council, a non-profit civil rights organization, first began working with the Village on employment issues in 2007. Last year, Tequesta became one of the first municipalities in Florida to prohibit discrimination based on "gender identity or expression." Full Story. [10/8/08]

The sheer relief and joy as these people accept themselves is amazing to watch! The Love That Won't Shut Up is a fascinating look at LGBT history with people who lived through it. Police raids, knife carrying butches and so much more. We sometimes forget what those before us endured for our relative freedom. 7:45 Between Love and Goodbye –Filled with unqualified romance, hilarious situations and plenty of down and dirty drama this film is for anyone who has the guts to enter into a relationship. We watch as a young, sexy couple falls in love then have to choose between family and love. A lesbian friend who saves the day, a sister who drives a wedge and immigration issues surround Kyle and Marcel as they live in the space between love and goodbye. Ladies, don't be fooled by the photos, you'll love this one too! (We'll have stars: Simon Miller, Jane Elliot and Rob Harmon at the screening) 10:00 The Kinsey Sicks: Almost Infamous-You've seen them live, but never like this- the smelly costumes, the condescending sound guys, the exhaustion, and the dead audiences. We watch a queer act trying to come to terms with its own success. Will the singers soften the emotional edge of their show to appeal to a larger audience? Can they hold up under the pressure of performing every day? Will they get the hotel to pay for their wireless Internet? Another best bet for everyone. > Full Story. [10/3/08]

RECENT POLL: NOVEMBER AMENDMENT 2 VOTE TOO CLOSE TO CALL This November, Florida voters will vote on Amendment 2, which seeks to amend the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman only and prohibit recognition of any other legal union that is the "substantial equivalent" of marriage. Florida law already prohibits recognition of marriages by gay or lesbian couples-the proposed amendment would write that discriminatory ban into the constitution and its broad wording would also ban civil unions and likely domestic partnerships as well. > Full Story.
